Philadelphia Energy Solutions said Oct.30 that it began restoring normal operations at its 330,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Philadelphia following Sandy.

Hess Corp. said Tuesday that it lost power at its 70,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Port Reading, N.J. The company shut the refinery down Monday ahead of Sandy.

Phillips 66 (PSX) reported that power was out at its Phillips 66 (PSX) said Oct. 28 that it shut its Bayway refinery in Linden, N.J. ahead of Hurricane Sandy. The company said there was some flooding in low-lying areas of the refinery.

PBF Energy said Oct. 29 that its 180,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Paulsboro, N.J., and a 190,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Delaware City, Del. operated safely at reduced rates through the storm. The company said a flaring incident at the Delaware City refinery did not impact operations.

Alon Energy USA reported that an equipment malfunction caused a sulfur recovery unit to trip at its Big Spring refinery, according to an Oct. 29 report. The company said it reduced charge tot he unit.

Phillips 66 (PSX) reported an equipment failure in the sulfur-recovery unit of its Westlake, La. refinery Oct. 27, according to a filing with the U.S. National Response Center made public Sunday. The company reported in the filing that the instrument had been repaired and the unit was starting back up at the 239,400 barrel-a-day refinery.

A spokesman for Exxon Mobil said Oct. 26 that there is a planned turnaround underway at the 192,500 barrel-a-day Chalmette Refinery, but declined to comment on the specific units affected. The refinery is a joint venture between Exxon and Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (PVZ.YY).

Shell (RDSA) said in a filing dated Oct. 25 that the coker unit at its Martinez refinery would be started up over the next several days.

A spokesman for Phillips 66 (PSX) said Oct. 24 that the company was in the process of restarting units at its Wilmington, Calif. refinery after an external "power dip" to the 139,000 barrel-a-day refinery.

A distilling unit shutdown at Phillips 66's Wood River refinery caused flaring Oct. 23.

A compressor failure at Delta Airlines Inc.'s (DAL) 185,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Trainer, Pennsylvania refinery resulted in flaring Oct. 23, according to a government filing. The release lasted for 2 1/2 hours and has been secured, according to the filing.

An incinerator at BP PLC (BP)'s 400,780 Texas City refinery was down for 15 minutes after a malfunction in the sulfur recovery unit Oct. 23, according to a government filing.

Tesoro (TSO) reported a small fire at its 166,000 barrel-a-day Martinez, Calif. refinery on Oct. 21, but said the incident won't affect its ability to fulfill supply contracts. A spokesman said the company is assessing whether repairs will be needed.

Tesoro (TSO) said Oct. 12 that it was performing maintenance at its 120,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Anacortes, Wash. On Oct. 15 the company reported that its boiler would be shut down as part of the planned maintenance, according to a filing. 2The company did not specify which other units were being worked on or how long the work would last but said it would continue to meet all supply commitments.

A unit of Citgo Petroleum Corp.'s Lake Charles, La. refinery was being secured for repairs after a small leak was found on a piece of equipment there, according to a filing Oct. 22 with the National Response Center. The company reported that the 427,800 barrel-a-day refinery released hydrogen and trace amounts of hydrogen sulfide and diesel into the air Monday, describing the incident as an equipment failure.

Exxon Mobil (XOM) reported Oct. 22 that it was restarting unit that had been shut down shut down Oct. 19 following an "over pressuring" incident in a process unit led to flaring its 238,600 barrel-a-day refinery in Joliet. A spokesman said there was minimal production impact and contracts will be met.

Citgo Petroleum Corp. reported that a flare gas compressor shut down at its Lemont, Ill. refinery Sunday leading to the release of sulfur dioxide. The company reported that it was "trying to restart the compressor" after the equipment failure at the 167,000 barrel-a-day refinery.

Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said Oct. 22 that it was restarting a reformer and hydrocracking unit at its oil 170,000 barrel a day McKee Refinery in Sunray, Texas after about a week of planned maintenance work. The company said Oct. 18 that it brought the fluid catalytic cracking unit back.

Units of Citgo Petroleum Corp.'s 163,000 barrel-a-day Corpus Christi refinery were restarting after turnaround, according to an Oct. 20 alert from the Corpus Christi Local Emergency Planning Committee. The company had said unspecified units would be down for planned maintenance Oct. 1.

Royal Dutch Shell Plc. (RDSA) reported on Oct. 18 emissions related to "maintenance, start-up or shut-down" activity at its refinery in Deer Park, Texas. Affected units included the CCU, hydrotreater, aklyation unit and central processing unit, Shell said in its filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

BP PLC (BP, BP.LN) shut the smallest of three crude distillation units, or CDU, at its refinery in Whiting, Indiana, a person familiar with operations at the plant said Oct 18. The CDU has about 76,000 barrel a day in capacity.

Alon USA Energy said Oct. 13 it was performing maintenance at the FCCU at its 67,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Big Spring, Texas.

Exxon Mobil (XOM) said a compressor tripped Oct. 12 at its 344,500 barrel-a-day refinery in Beaumont, Texas.

A Flint Hills gasoline production unit shut down at its Corpus Christi refinery, the privately held company said in a government filing made public Oct. 12.

Citgo Petroleum said Oct. 10 that a fire at its Corpus Christi refinery forced its platform unit #4 offline. The cause of the fire was being investigated.

Chevron Corp. (CVX) said Oct. 9 that the crude distillation unit damaged in an August fire at its refinery in Richmond, Calif., would be offline through the fourth quarter.

Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said Oct. 8 the process of restarting the crude distillation unit, or CDU, at its refinery in Meraux, La., is under way. The unit was taken out of service on July 22 due to a fire at a heat exchanger, the company said at that time.

Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) on Oct. 5 said it was performing planned maintenance at a key gasoline-making fluid catalytic cracking unit, or FCCU, at its refinery in Billings, Mont. The work would take several weeks, the company said.

Phillips 66 (PSX) on Oct. 5 said a hydrocracker at its refinery in Rodeo, Calif., was taken down for unplanned maintenance. PSX said the previous day that planned maintenance activities were under way at the refinery but gave no further details.

Motiva Enterprises LLC (RDSA RDSA.LN) could restart its 325,000 barrel-a-day CDU in December, a person familiar with refinery said on Oct. 5. The unit, part of a $10 billion expansion, was commissioned in May but shut soon after when an accident resulted in corrosive chemicals rushing into its piping. The original restart estimate was sometime in early 2013.

Philadelphia Energy Solutions (SUN CG) shut an isomerization unit at the Girard Point section of its Philadelphia refinery for mechanical repairs on Oct. 3, a filing to environmental regulators made public on Oct. 5 said. No further information was provided.

HollyFrontier Corp. (HFC) on Oct. 5 said its Tulsa East diesel hydrotreater unit returned to service as planned within the six- to eight-week time frame previously announced. The unit was shut for repairs following a fire on Aug. 2.

Exxon Mobil said Oct. 5 that initial assessments to evaluate the affected equipment and the investigation into the cause of a fire on Oct. 3 at its Baytown, Texas, refinery continues. Remaining plant operations weren't impacted by the fire, but some impact to operations is expected. The company expects to meet its contractual agreements. The flexicoker taken off line on Sept. 11 to repair a heat exchanger leak remains shuttered, the company said on Oct. 5.

Philadelphia Energy Solutions shut a CO boiler and may have slightly reduced FCCU output, a person familiar with the plant said on Oct. 2. There is no estimate of when the work will end.
