AmSouth Bank (NYSE: ASO) is providing a $10 million construction loan to River Garden Homes, LLC, to finance the single-family residential phase of the revitalized River Garden neighborhood, which is being developed on the former St. Thomas Housing Project site near downtown New Orleans. The loan will finance construction of 73 single-family homes to be built by HRI Properties, Inc. According to Suzanne Mestayer, South Louisiana head for AmSouth Bank, this project is one of the first significant new construction efforts in the city amid ongoing hurricane recovery work. As part of a mixed-income strategy for the reclaimed neighborhood, 15 of the 73 new homes will be "affordable" for low to moderate income families, while the remaining 58 will be sold at market prices.
