Doing more than expected, doing the unexpected and committing "random acts of kindness" at coffee shops, football games, movie theaters, nursing homes, gas stations and at their branches, that's what AmSouth Bankers (NYSE:ASO) across Alabama will be doing during the bank's Do More Than Expected Week, October 3 - 8, 2005. Do More Than Expected is one of AmSouth's six basic values. "AmSouth's 130-year commitment to Alabama and our strong history of community involvement and corporate stewardship have been the foundation for our six basic values," said Charles Mayer, AmSouth's General Banking Group Head. "We want this week to be a tangible demonstration of the years we have spent building a reputation as The Relationship People," added Mayer. Mayer and other executives across the state will be participating in Do More Than Expected Patrols to commit random acts of kindness such as buying coffee, gasoline and movie tickets, providing free hot dogs, popcorn or tickets to area high school football games, hosting customer and firefighter appreciation cook outs and much more. In all, as many as 1,000 AmSouth employees will participate in over 300 events over the course of the week. Some of AmSouth's Do More Than Expected plans for the week include: -- In Birmingham--Providing complimentary all-day admission to the Birmingham Zoo -- In Huntsville--Visiting 17 fire stations to thank firefighters for their community commitment -- In Montgomery--Providing free savings bonds for all newborns born during Do More Than Expected Week -- In Mobile-- Donating over 200 book bags and lunch boxes to school children displaced because of Hurricane Katrina -- In Tuscaloosa--holding Amnesty day at the Tuscaloosa library. Overdue book fines will be paid by AmSouth. In addition to random acts of kindness in the communities it serves, AmSouth employees will also be covering the costs of taking children to museums and zoos; holding teacher and firefighter appreciation events; coordinating food, blood and supply drives for hurricane relief efforts; visiting local hospitals with toys; delivering food for Meals on Wheels and offering complimentary seminars on protecting your identity and saving for retirement.
