Medical devices maker Cutera Inc. (CUTR) has obtained the approval of Health Canada for its Excel V laser system, which presents a technical breakthrough for frequently carried out procedures in a cosmetic/aesthetic dermatologist’s clinic, be they pigment, vascular or composite skin revitalization therapy.  

Overall, the Excel V is intended to provide an optimal experience for both the patient and the clinician. Its handpieces combine fine calibration and optimized visibility permitting accurate handling of lesions. The usage of this system does not require consumables or long wait times. According to the company, the Excel V system uses a dual wavelength system and is intended to tackle blemishes of the skin, such as spider and leg veins and diffuse redness.

The new Excel V laser is superior to available lasers. Physicians can handily treat a wider set of pigmented and vascular indications with the touch of a button and assistance from convenient navigation features. The system includes a stylistic handpiece with a laser that is optimized for redundant blood vessels and pigmentation as well as another laser known to handle difficult vascular situations, such as veins in the leg. A second handpiece, Genesis V, affords collagen generating solution for facial improvement and removal of fine lines.   

Cutera develops and markets laser aesthetics systems for physicians and qualified practitioners globally and offers its products under three platforms, such as, Solera, Xeo and CoolGlide. The company markets its products through its direct sales force and distributors. Cutera competes with Cynosure Inc. (CYNO), Palomar Medical Technologies (PMTI) and Syneron Medical Ltd.
