On October 1, 2009 in Singapore, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. (the “Company”)
announced that it received an order from the High Court of Singapore to convene the meeting of the
Company’s ordinary shareholders to approve the scheme of arrangement under Section 210 of the
Companies Act, Chapter 50 of Singapore to effect the previously announced proposed acquisition of
the Company by ATIC International Investment Company LLC.
The announcement by the Company is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1.
