Ontario's York Regional Police Meet Canadian Government Regulations With Aladdin eToken

Aladdin Knowledge Systems (NASDAQ: ALDN) today announced that the
York Regional Police have selected Aladdin eToken strong two-factor
authentication to comply with national Canadian Police Information
Centre (CPIC) regulations. In order to access and alter secure data
within the nationwide database, police officers are required to use
two-factor authentication to verify their identity, preserving the
authenticity of federal information.
Serving nearly one million citizens just north of Toronto,
Ontario, the York Regional Police have deployed 2,000 Aladdin
eToken PRO USB-based smartcard devices to its officers and civilian
employees, enabling them to access and update the CPIC database.
Officers simply plug the token into a USB port, enter their
password, and are able to access critical information. Remote
employees use Aladdin eToken One Time Password (OTP) tokens for
increased security for members accessing York's network
remotely.
Roughly the size of an average house key, Aladdin's innovative
smartcard-based and OTP tokens are easy to use, deploy and manage
with Aladdin's Token Management System (TMS), allowing York's IT
manager to monitor and update devices from one centralized
server.
"Aladdin provided us a simple way to meet the CPIC requirements
for strong authentication without taking up our officers' valuable
time," said Nick Mohamed, Assistant IT Manager at York Regional
Police. "Together with our solution partner NCI, Aladdin's staff
was able to quickly integrate Aladdin eToken into our existing
infrastructure so that the officers can access the information they
need to do their jobs and keep people and our data as safe as
possible."
"Aberdeen's research continues to show high interest in
smartcard-based solutions paired with digital certificates,
particularly for user authentication, data protection, and remote
access applications as in the example of law enforcement," said
Derek Brink, vice president and research fellow for IT Security at
Aberdeen Group. "In addition, the research indicates a growing
buyer preference for flexibility and choice with respect to the
form factors which can be used as physical 'containers' for user
authentication credentials -- a trend which is well-aligned with
Aladdin's eToken product line."
In order to maximize value at YRP, Aladdin's partner, NCI,
created a customized solution, fully integrating eToken and TMS
with York's existing infrastructure to minimize costs and ensure
that all components of the system were fully interoperable. NCI has
installed similar solutions in a number of law enforcement and
government agencies throughout Canada, seeing a growing trend in
agencies seeking to comply with CPIC and other government and
industry regulations.
"Aladdin eToken has proven itself a strong solution for many
industries, including law enforcement, with its advanced
technology, solid support team and the ability to meet not only
CPIC requirements, but a variety of other regulations for
two-factor authentication," said Ryan Krukoski, vice president of
NCI. "NCI is committed to offering the most advanced technology
with easy-to-use management systems so that our customers can focus
on doing their jobs. In this case, that means saving lives."
"NCI has a solid understanding of the laws and regulations
concerning information security technology and is able to provide
effective analysis, solutions and integration support that enables
law enforcement agencies to comply with government regulations,"
said Chen Arbel, vice president of strategic development at Aladdin
Knowledge Systems. "Together, our goal is to provide our customers
with the most advanced support, training and technology to improve
efficiency, increase security and enable compliance."
