NEW YORK, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The different ways that people communicate have changed radically over the last decade -- and consumer demand for improved devices is constant. Philips is addressing that need with some new products, unveiled at the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show, that leverage emerging technology. Cameron Batten and Janna Rachelle, Philips' roving reporters, are here to tell you more. (See video at: http://media.medialink.com/WebNR.aspx?story=32934) Consumers using cordless phones equipped with Philips' Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication (DECT) technology will hear virtually none of the cracks, buzzes, whines or interference that they are accustomed to hearing when they use a conventional telephone. Philips' DECT means the device uses up to 60 channels to get the clearest call over greater distances than any analog phone. Voice-over-internet-protocol (VOIP) offers an affordable way to make phone calls by using the Internet instead of a landline to connect their phone to other VOIP-enabled phones. Two phones from Philips and partners Skype and Microsoft -- the Skype VOIP841 and Windows Live Messenger VOIP433 -- have dual functionality that allows callers to use either the net or a landline to connect to friends and family. With the VoIP841, someone doesn't even need a PC. Another popular tool, the webcam, allows people communicating by chat to see each other. Philips' new cameras come with easy-to-use software that allows users to capture, edit and manage videos -- as well as send pictures or videomail.
