MARKET OVERVIEW Overseas markets seem a little more timid than trading in U.S. equity futures would indicate as just six of the 15 markets that we track are positive. The cumulative average return on the group stands at a plus 0.105 percent. Both the Bank of England (BOE) and the European Central Bank (ECB) left their key interest rates, as expected, unchanged. Out of its prior meeting the BOE raised its key overnight rate by 25-basis points. The key piece of economic data today will be the 8:30 a.m. release of Initial Jobless Claims for the week of November 29. Current estimates by those in the know, call for a rise of 4,000 on the heels of a surprise 11,000 decline in the prior week. That 11,000 decline to 351,000 marked the eight consecutive week that seasonally adjusted claims held beneath the key 400,000 level and moved the figure to a 34-month low. Continuing claims for the week of November 15 dropped by 105,000 to 3,368,000. This report is the final opening act for the critically acclaimed November non-farms payroll and unemployment figures, due out before Friday's market open. Additionally watch your favorite retailer today, as most of the larger concerns will be releasing their November same-store-sales figures throughout the session. Intel will give its mid-quarter update for its fourth quarter sometime today. Finally, National Semiconductor is expected to release its second quarter earnings report sometime today. The Q1 report surprised the market with its mid-day release a little after noon. Currently the Street is looking for a bottom-line figure of 32 cents per share.
